Fiji hotels are amongst the most popular in the south pacific, with many being fully booked at least three months in advance. The two most commercial areas where large hotels dominate and these are all heavily promoted amongst high street travel agents. These include the Mamanuca Islands off Nadi which boasts Fiji's best weather and gorgeous small islands with palm fringed beaches and the Coral Coast on the main island of Viti Levu which has good sightseeing attractions and is convenient for travelling to. Here you'll likely come across lots of Australian and New Zealand tourists on package holidays.
To get away from the crowds and experience the more authentic, traditional and intimate side of Fiji, you'll need to travel a little further a field to the gorgeous Yasawa Island or to either Northern Fiji or the Southern Group. Here you're find some of the most beautiful relaxing resorts in the region alongside unspoiled beaches, with great hospitality, world class snorkelling and diving, lush tropical rain forest and traditional fishing villages nearby. Although there are no self contained bungalows, holiday homes and few guesthouses in Fiji, most of the small resorts are extremely down to earth and offer an intimate atmosphere.
